This year marks the 25th anniversary of the wildly successful Home Alone 2: Lost In New York, the film which solidified New York as the Christmas destination.
It’s arguably one of the best sequels ever made, and definitely one of the best Christmas films of all time.
Few TV shows have been as successful as Friends, and few Christmas films are as universally loved as Home Alone.
Thanks to repeated showings on E4 and Comedy Central, the 90s classic sitcom made its way to a completely new generation of obsessive fans, and Home Alone has just been a classic since day one.
But what if you could find a link between your two favourite nineties franchises, that would really make your day, wouldn’t it?
Well, luckily for you, there is such a link. And it isn’t some far-fetched fan theory about Kevin being one of Monica and Chandler’s kids or anything like that.
Nope, this link comes supported with real sources, facts and confirmed connections between the two titles.
Fans of Friends may remember when Monica and Chandler made that heartbreaking decision to abandon their gorgeous Manhattan apartment for a house in the suburbs where they could raise their children – even if it didn’t have the apartment over the garage where Joey could grow old.
Well what kind of house would make the couple leave the beautiful concrete jungle of New York City? The McCallister house from Home Alone!
Now before you go shouting off in the comments that Kevin is from Chicago and not New York, you’re absolutely right, but bear with us.
This comes from 22 Vision, an online production company, who explain the whole thing in the video below, who say the houses opposite the Home Alone mansion match up perfectly with the outside of Chandler and Monica’s windows in Friends.
22 Vision even went to the trouble of getting in touch with the people who lived in the real Home Alone house, and they confirmed it is the same house!
Check out the video here…
Apparently the reason for the similarities is because the crew of Friends decided to use stock footage which was filmed during the production of Home Alone to make the world outside the windows, and nobody even noticed.
The couple got a really good deal on that house if that’s where they ended up, and you know the house isn’t going to get robbed because the burglars in that neighbourhood are rubbish at burgling houses.
Not bad for a chef and a man who used to work with transponsters.
To mark the festive film’s anniversary, the Plaza Hotel is giving fans the opportunity to get a taste of that Kevin McCallister life with their Home Alone 2 Anniversary package.
Don’t expect any Wet Bandits or Tim Curry concierge to hamper your journey around New York City, however. This is a legit treat which even includes a pizza tour around the Big Apple.
What better way to herald in the yuletide than by celebrating a stone cold classic of cinema?
