Brooklyn Nine-Nine Gets 2019 Release Date

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Renewed by NBCFox

After a fraught few days for the Nine-Nine and its creators, the good news just keeps on rolling in.

As we all know by now, the show was cancelled by Fox last week after five seasons with the network.

Thankfully, just 36 hours the after announcement, and about 35 hours and 59 minutes of mild hysteria, the cop show was rescued by NBC following an overwhelming response by fans on social media.

According to Screen Rant, several other networks and well-known streaming platforms had expressed interest in picking up the program. However, NBC, whose studio arm – Universal Pictures – produces Brooklyn Nine Nine, came out on top in the bid to save the show.

It’s now been reported that Brooklyn Nine-Nine will return for series six at the start of 2019.

The reason for the axe of the popular show was said to be due to dwindling ratings, despite rave reviews.

Instead of watching episodes as they aired, audiences preferred to binge the show as and when they pleased because, well, who doesn’t? And it obviously worked, as Brooklyn Nine-Nine has a massive following, and is so far the only series to be rescued from cancellation in a way such as this.

NBC Entertainment Chairman, Robert Greenblatt, said:

Ever since we sold this show to Fox I’ve regretted letting it get away, and it’s high time it came back to its rightful home.

Mike Shur, Dan Goor and Andy Samberg grew up on NBC and we’re all thrilled that one of the smartest, funniest and best-cast comedies in a long time will take its place in our comedy lineup. I speak for everyone at NBC, here’s to Nine-Nine!

Andy Samberg, who plays Detective Jake Peralta on the show, took to twitter to reveal the good news. He wrote:

So happy to announce:

So far, the tweet has had more than 197,000 likes and more than 50,000 retweets.

As you’d expect from such a funny show, it’s cast members responded in typically hilarious fashion.

Melissa Fumero, who plays the slightly neurotic but fan-favourite Detective Amy Santiago, used most people’s favourite method of expressing their feelings these days – memes – to show her own delight.

She tweeted a clip featuring another character from the show (Gina Linetti, my fave) which contained the caption:

If I had a mic right now, I’d drop it.

The tweet which accompanied the meme read:

#Brooklyn99 IS COMING BACK FOR SEASON 6 YOU GUYS ON NBC!!!!! You did this!! You got loud and you were heard and you saved our show!! Thank you!! Thank you to NBC!! NINE NINE!!!!!

While the man-mountain that is Terry Crews, who plays Sergeant Terry Jeffords, thanked none other than Jedi master Mark Hamill for his support in bringing the show back.

Terry tweeted:

I want to personally THANK YOU Mark for using the power of the force to save Brooklyn Nine Nine! *Wipes dirt off shoulder*

It may be a few months before we get the new episodes, but it’s safe to say that when it does return, in its new home, it’ll be worth waiting for.
