Calvin Harris And DeadMau5 Lead Tributes For Avicii

In the wake of the news about Swedish DJ Avicii’s death, celebrities, colleagues and friends have taken to social media to remember him.

Leading the emotional tributes to the late DJ, who died today (Friday) in Oman, are fellow dance music pioneers Calvin Harris and DeadMau5.

Calvin Harris wrote:

Devastating news about Avicii, a beautiful soul, passionate and extremely talented with so much more to do. My heart goes out to his family. God bless you Tim x

Deadmau5 echoed the sentiment, writing:

My sincerest and most heartfelt condolences to the friends, fans and families of Avicii.

Banter aside, nobody can deny what he has accomplished and done for modern dance music and I’m very proud of him.

Avicii, real name Tim Bergling, died in Muscat, Oman, though details surrounding his sudden death are unclear and unconfirmed.

A statement released by his reps reads:

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii. He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th.

The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.

According to Variety, Avicii retired from live performing back in 2016 citing health reasons. Although no cause of death has been announced as of yet, it is known that Avicii had suffered from health problems for years.

Avicii also suffered from acute pancreatitis, reportedly brought on by heavy drinking. He had his gallbladder and appendix removed in 2016.

American rock band Imagine Dragons tweeted:

Devastated at the news of Avicii passing. Working with him was one of my favourite collaborative moments. Far too young.

The world was a happier and fuller place with his presence and art. Sending all my love to his friends and family. Xxdr

Charlie Puth wrote:

Wow, I would like to take a moment to pay tribute to the man who really opened my eyes as to what my productions could one day sound like.

Avicii was a genius and a music innovator, and I can not believe he is no longer with us. RIP to the very best.

Avicii was also celebrated in the industry, being nominated twice for a Grammy Award. He was also one of the highest paid DJs of all time – earning $28 million in 2014 alone.

Recent collaborator Rita Ora wrote:

I have no words. I remember how amazing it was to make Lonely Together and it felt like just yesterday we were talking.

Condolences to Avicii’s family, friends, and the fans who supported him. May he rest in peace. Gone too soon. I’m devastated. Heartbroken.

Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of Avicii at this hard time.

Rest in peace.
