CNN Reporter Gave A Voice To Everyone Who Hates Trump

CNN analyst Van Jones gave a moving explanation of the fear that many Americans felt as Donald Trump appeared to be on the verge of being elected as the nation’s next president.

Jones called a Trump victory a ‘nightmare’ and said it would be difficult for many parents to explain to their kids how a man who regularly bullies and insults others was now the president of their country.

Speaking on CNN, he said:

People have talked about a miracle – I’m hearing about a nightmare.

It’s hard to be a parent tonight for a lot of us. You tell your kids, ‘Don’t be a bully.’ You tell your kids, ‘Don’t be a bigot.’ You tell your kids, ‘Do your homework and be prepared.’ Then you have this outcome, and you have people putting children to bed tonight and they’re afraid of breakfast.

They’re afraid of, ‘How do I explain this to my children?’ I have Muslim friends who are texting me tonight saying, ‘Should I leave the country?’ I have families of immigrants that are terrified tonight.

As a candidate and now-president who has often belittled certain races and cultures, Jones pointed out that, while Trump’s race to the White House was ‘a complete reinvention of politics and polls’ and ‘a rebellion against the elite’, it was also ‘white lash against a changing country’.

He said:

Donald Trump has a responsibility tonight to come out and reassure people that he is going to be the president of all the people who he insulted and offended and brushed aside. When you say you want to take your country back, you got a lot of people who feel that were not represented well either but we don’t want to feel that someone has been elected by throwing away some of us to appeal more deeply to others.

Jones’ comments immediately drew praise on Twitter:

But while Jones called on Trump to assure people that he’s insulted throughout the campaign trail — particularly minority Americans — that he will be their president too, it’s unlikely – now that Trump is president – that will ease many people’s minds.

Unfortunately, a lot of parents will be living Jones’ words this morning.
