You’ll probably never find yourself in this situation, but in case you’re incarcerated, there’s one thing you absolutely cannot do.
A former prison inmate has told people they should never, ever let their bare feet touch the floor in prison and when you hear why, it’s understandable.
TikToker and former prison inmate Amanda Dove, aka @prison_story, uses her platform to educate people on what life is really like behind bars.

She'd been telling people that if they ended up in prison, they should not speak unless they were spoken to and stay out of other people's business.
She said you should also avoid the trope on TV and movies of asking other inmates 'what are you in for' as it was 'disrespectful'.

Amanda also advised people to identify a useful skill they might have and 'market it' so you’re useful to others.
Which brought her to the most important piece of advice she gave viewers.
A lot of people latched onto her instruction to always wear shoes in prison and never let your bare feet touch the floor.
"If you ever were to end up in prison you do not want your feet to ever hit the floor, here's why," Amanda began as part of her response to a follower's question.

"Prison is a breeding ground for infectious diseases. Staph infection, MRSA, foot fungus everywhere in prison. Okay, picture this, maybe someone's in the shower and they cut themselves shaving and they bleed.
"Then maybe they urinate or defecate, but they have their shower shoes on. They then leave the shower walking in their shower shoes and they go to their cell."
The TikToker said nobody in prison should let their feet ever touch the floor because of the chance of disease.

She added: "That means all that stuff is on the floor just traveling with them so you always want to keep your shoes on even when you're changing. You don't want your feet to ever, ever, ever hit the floor."

Some viewers wondered why that was and asked if they rarely cleaned the floors in prison.
They were then told 'it's prison they don't gaf about clean cells'.
One person said: "I don't ever plan to go to prison, but I'm thinking few ppl do, so I might need this information."
This led to people 'taking notes' about the floor situation so that if their ever locked up, they know to bring a pair of slippers.
