Dad Mocked After Burning Daughters’ $3,500 Olivia Rodrigo Concert Tickets Over Vaccine Requirement

One dad went viral for all the wrong reasons after filming himself burning his daughters’ tickets for an Olivia Rodrigo concert

A dad has been mocked online after sharing a video of himself supposedly burning his daughters’ $3,500 Olivia Rodrigo concert tickets over the event’s vaccine requirement, saying he’s ‘taking a stand’.

Many large-scale events continue to have measures in place to help stop the spread of coronavirus, whether it’s asking attendees to present proof of a recent negative lateral flow test or show that they are fully vaccinated.

However, one dad went viral for all the wrong reasons after filming himself burning his daughters’ tickets for an Olivia Rodrigo concert, writing in the video that he’d be explaining ‘Why my daughters and I decided to [burn] our $3,500 Olivia Rodrigo concert tickets for tonight’.

The clip was shared on Twitter by @PatriotTakes, which referred to the unnamed father as a ‘Kari Lake supporter who recently visited Mar-a-Lago', saying he ‘burned his family’s Olivia Rodrigo concert tickets worth $3,500 due to the performer’s vaccine requirement’.

In the video, he said to the camera: "Moms, dads, kids, teens, comes a point in life where you’ve got to take a stand. Take a stand a stand for your values.

“It’s not always the easiest thing to do – you don’t have to be right but start taking a stand for what’s right.”

The dad then proceeded to rant about ‘personal control’, continuing: “You’re looking at $3,500 in concert tickets to a concert that wants to control me, that wants to tell you and I what to put in our bodies.

“And the bottom line is: create the life that you are in personal control [of]. What goes into your body to where do you not get bullied by a system or people or anyone to do something that compromises or sacrifices exactly what you’re meant to do in the life you’re meant to lead. Take a stand.”

The Republican Party’s Kari Lake, who is running for Governor of Arizona and has been endorsed by former president Donald Trump, called the man a ‘hero’ when she shared the video on her own page.

"We can't let Hollywood influencers try to control our children or force people to get a vaccine against their will," she said.

"Thank you, Doug for being a strong patriotic American and a great father."

But many other people weren't quite so praising of his actions, with one person commenting on Twitter: "This is BS; nobody uses paper tickets. He either resold them or went to the concert."

Someone else wrote: "So, Olivia has their money, and she has a few less MAGAs at her concert? Seems like a win-win."

A third said: "He could have simply not bought the tickets in the first place if he didn’t agree with the vaccine policy. Meanwhile, what’s he 'taking a stand' against? He’s free to decline the vaccine. Who’s stopping him? Every choice comes with consequences, though."

A fourth added sarcastically: "Donating $3500 to a performer who dares to look out for the health and safety of their fans. That’s quite a stand [there] Dr Einstein."
