The Rocky series is possibly the greatest sports movie franchise EVER, maybe the greatest films ever. Now it looks like it’s getting even bigger as Dolph Lundgren gets into shape for Creed 2.
Everyone has their favourite – whether it’s Balboa facing ‘Clubber’ Lang in number three, the rematch with Apollo in Rocky II…
My personal fave is Rocky IV – when he faces Ivan Drago – and those who feel the same, could be in for the rematch of all fights…
If Dolph’s training regime is anything like Sly’s was for the original film, it’ll be absolutely insane.
In 2015, the film Creed did pretty well gaining a good response from fans and critics alike – you remember Creed, based around Adonis (the son of Apollo) and Rocky, a.k.a Sylvester Stallone, obvs.
As you’ll remember from the Rocky films, both Balboa and Creed take on the Soviet Captain Ivan Drago, played by Dolph Lundgren – but have very different outcomes.
I won’t spoil it for you, but if you don’t know the films – take the day off and go and watch all of them, NOW!
32 years on and the Siberian Express – played by Lundgren again – will be making a comeback, for the hotly anticipated Creed 2. Despite the storyline being kept under wraps, I think we can assume what’s going to happen (in parts anyway) given the formidable shape Dolph is getting himself into.
Both Sylvester Stallone and Dolph Lundgren are very active on social media, so it’s no surprise their latest posts have been getting fans excited.
Just last week, Sly posted on Instagram an image depicting Dolph in the new film, captioned:
A WINNER IS JUST A PROUD LOSER WHO NEVER STOPPED TRYING! …. the Son is Rising!
It was followed up with another post, this time showing Stallone’s scribbled notes which were apparently part of the Creed 2 screenplay.
JUST DONE …. if you are curious , around 439 handwritten pages translates into about a 120 page typed screenplay …#writers cramp #rockybalboa #drago #adoniscreed #MGM
The hashtags, Rocky Balboa, Drago and Adonis Creed kind of give it away…
Many fans – me included – believe Creed 2 will see Adonis avenge his father’s death, by going toe-to-toe with Drago inside the ring.
According to TMZ Sports though, when they approached Stallone about the storyline, Rocky responded:
It wouldn’t be a party without Drago, would it? I’m gonna punch him.
You know I gotta hit Drago once.
Given Stallone’s track record, not just in the Rocky films but in previous ventures such as The Expendables it’s fair to say we’ll be in for an action-packed sequel.
Stallone and Lundgren, 71 and 59 years old respectively, look in formidable shape, so it’s hard to not think some serious fighting is going to take place.
Regardless of plot line, I think it’s fair to say the ending will see Rocky Balboa come out on top – whether as fighter or trainer!
Plans, let alone a release date, are pretty concealed at the moment for Creed 2, though some reports are saying its expected release is 2019/2020.
Argh… I don’t think I can wait that long, guess I’ll just break out the box set again!
