Drew Barrymore Apologises For Commenting On Johnny Depp Amber Heard Trial

The actor said it was a 'teachable moment' and said she never meant to offend anyone

Drew Barrymore has apologised for commenting on Johnny Depp and Amber Heard's defamation trial.

The Pirates of The Caribbean star is suing his ex-wife over an article she wrote in 2018 in which she claimed she was a survivor of abuse.

Although it did not name Depp specifically, he claims it was clearly about him and had a damaging effect on his career.

The trial has been televised, with a litany of personal details being revealed about their relationship.

Talking about it on her her talk show The Drew Barrymore Show, the actor said: "It’s like one layer of crazy, it’s a seven-layer dip of insanity. I know that these are two people’s real lives and I know what it’s like to have your life put out in public.

"I understand all the feelings, but they are actually offering up this information that nobody had to know. This is crazy!"

Following her remarks, Barrymore received a wave of criticism, with some viewers calling her 'insensitive'.

The 47-year-old has now come out and apologised for what she said:

In a video posted on her Instagram account, she said: "It has come to my attention that I have offended people with making light of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard and for that I just want to deeply apologise and appreciate everyone who spoke out because this can be a teachable moment for me and how I move forward and how I conduct myself.

"I can be a more thoughtful and better person moving forward because all I want to do is be a good person and I very much appreciate the depth of this and I will grow and change from it.

"And I thank everyone helping me grow along the way and teaching me. Thank you."

Last week, Depp's security guard revealed details of the couple's honeymoon as the trial continues.

Malcolm Connelly, who worked as a security guard for Depp and his ex-partner Vanessa Paradis, testified via video link, giving his view on Depp and Heard's relationship and recalling their honeymoon.

On Heard and Depp's honeymoon on the Orient Express from Bangkok to Singapore Connelly took a photograph of the pair. The image was shown in court.

The security guard reflected how Depp was 'not happy' and pointed out swelling under one of the Pirates of the Caribbean's eyes.

"He's walk into a door, or a door's walked into him," the security guard said.
