Influencer Emma Claiir quits social media after admitting to killing two cats as a child

She'd previously been dropped by a brand that sponsored her and now she's off social media

Influencer Emma Claiir has quit social media after the backlash she received following her admission that she killed two cats as a child.

The Australian was dropped by a beauty brand earlier this year after she was recording an episode of the Simply Chaotic podcast and made the revelation that she killed her family cat and her best friend's cat.

She said: "I killed my cat... My sister did not speak to me for months and my mum was f**king fuming at me, and yeah, I killed it.

"I was swinging my cat around. Like, I was thinking it was just a stuffed toy. And I accidentally let go of it. And then, if you really want to know more about me, I also killed my best friend’s cat."

At the time this drew a strong negative response and Claiir released a statement on social media telling people they 'all need to chill' and that it had 'happened 21 years ago'.

The influencer said she's leaving social media.

She called it a 'bit of light humor in a get to know us episode', telling people the podcast wasn't for them if they couldn't handle revelations like that.

The influencer also said she'd had and taken very good care of multiple cats since then, arguing that someone is 'not the same person you were at 9 years old'.

She was then dropped by brand MCoBeauty who said they would no longer be working with the influencer, and she later released a statement with a more sincere apology.

Claiir said she'd thought more about her actions and what she'd said on the podcast, admitting it wasn't something she was proud of and that she hoped 'we can leave it there'.

However, the backlash did not end and Claiir recently posted to say she'd be stepping away from social media with a long message describing the impact it had all had on her mental health.

The influencer has announced she's stepping away from social media.

It may not be permanent, though.

Emma wrote: "It's officially time to say goodbye to Emma Claiir. Will it be forever? I don't know yet."

She said she would be 'putting my mental health first' and 'just simply wanted to be Emma again'.

The influencer rounded out the post by thanking her baby, husband, family and friends, calling them 'my biggest rocks'.

So that would appear to be that, she's off social media indefinitely and is going to spend more time with her young family.
