Estate Agent Reveals Huge 'Red Flag' To Spot When Buying A New House

Estate agent reveals a red flag to spot when buying a new home

A TikToker has revealed a huge red flag to look for when buying a new house.

Whether it's finding a home for yourself or a loved one, looking for a new home can be a source of major drama, as the cast of Selling Sunset will attest to.

Now, real estate agent and TikToker @capecchiandco shared one thing you should look for when buying a new home.

The TikToker wrote over her video, 'You're not going to believe what the seller was trying to cover up. What until the end to find out.'

She then proceeded to address fans, saying, 'Another crazy real estate story because, frankly, I've got a ton.'

The content creator then goes on to explain that the story comes from a few years back, when she was showing buyers a house and that the seller was going to be present.

While apparently that's not the 'norm', the TikToker notes that the seller was entitled to be present, given that it's her house.

She then explains how when they arrived at dusk, it was 'really dark' inside the house and 'kind of hazy'.

The real estate agent was then hit by a really strong 'smoke smell' as well as a 'strong chlorine scent'.

Sounds like the start of a Bates Motel episode.

This made the real estate agent begin to wonder whether the seller was trying to cover something up.

Still, the estate agent and her prospective buyers make their way upstairs while the seller was 'just sitting there'.

This is when the TikToker also noticed that 'all of [the seller's] pets' were in the garage, for some reason.

Despite these strange occurrences and the fact that the house 'needs a lot of work', the buyers were interested.

With the house 'under contract', inspections and further negotiations took place.

The potential buyers then had their final walk-through of the house before closing the deal, and again, the strong chlorine smell was present.

Suspicious. But as the TikToker says, 'You don't know what you don't know,' and they couldn't tell what the smell was covering.

The deal was closed, and the buyers eventually turned up to the house to move in.

They started pulling up the floors in an effort to redecorate, and what did they find? Floors that were 'so full of animal urine' that they almost started throwing up.

The buyers had to throw out not only 'all the floors' but all of the sub-floors and the trim because they were 'soaked' through.

So, the moral of the story?

If you smell chlorine and there's no pool, something's up.
