Horrific footage has emerged of a female Isis suicide bomber carrying a baby in her arms before blowing up the both of them.
At first look, the woman appears to be fleeing the Iraqi city of Mosul – which is now reportedly no longer under the control of ISIS.
However, the clip shows the woman gripping a trigger before detonating it seconds later.
In the explosion, a number of civilians and two Iraqi soldiers were injured but the only fatalities were the woman and the child.
The Iraqi TV station, Al-Mawsleya, captured the chilling footage, which showed the woman passing Iraqi troops as they flushed out Isis fighters from their last remaining bolt hole.
The woman attempted to detonate explosives that were hidden under her clothes as she passed the soldiers, but it failed to go off immediately, reports Al-Mawsleya TV.
The television station had been filming the on-going fighting with the crew not realising what they had captured until reviewing the footage.
In the last fortnight alone, more than 20 female suicide bombers hiding among civilians are believed to have detonated explosives, as the battle for control of the city reached a finale.
In a bid to identify the suicide bombers, soldiers had been ordering women on the streets to remove their niqabs, which cover everything but the eyes.
‘Jihadist brides’, the female supporters of Isis, usually stay at home to look after the children but some experts believe that the women are now wishing to take part like their male counterparts.
Lieutenant General Sami al-Aridi said:
The women are fighting with their children right beside them.
It’s making us hesitant to use air strikes to advance – if it weren’t for this we could be finished in just a few hours.
The Iraqi Prime Minister, Haider al-Abadi arrived in Mosul to congratulate the armed forces for their “victory” over Isis, after nearly nine months of urban warfare, bringing an end to three years of jihadist control of the city.
