It’s been 10 years since we last saw John Rambo on our screens, but recently the man behind the infamous character, Sylvester Stallone, has been dropping more than a few hints about the fifth instalment in the saga.
We now know that the next film will be called Rambo 5: Last Blood, possibly hinting that the new movie will bring the franchise full circle, as the original film was called simply First Blood.
The film will reportedly follow the titular, muscular man mountain that is John Rambo as he takes on the Mexican drug cartels after the daughter of one of his friends is kidnapped.
From Stallone’s own Instagram, we’ve been given a fair few hints as to what Rambo is up to in the new movie. Firstly, we saw a shot of Stallone in full cowboy gear, swapping his green beret for a stetson as if he’s ready to saddle up.
And now, Stallone has shared perhaps the most revealing shot so far – inside Rambo’s ‘man cave’.
Check it out:
As the photo shows, it seems Rambo has his own armoury of some sort, perhaps an underground bunker or outbuilding, where rifles and knives line the walls, as well as suitcases if he ever needs to take off, and even a few sentimental photos in frames.
Front and centre, of course, is Stallone himself, casually perched on top of a desk or work bench, looking solemnly at a rather large knife.
As the fourth Rambo film finished with John returning to the United States to finally visit his father in Arizona, this new shot, along with the ‘cowboy’ look, could be hinting that he decided to stay in Arizona and settle down to life on the ranch.
Of course, no Sylvester Stallone movie would be complete without the guy – who is 72 years old by the way – seriously bulking up for his role.
Just last month, taking to Instagram once again, the actor posted a video of himself pumping some serious iron in the gym. With his trademark sneer and gritted teeth, Sly captioned the video: ‘Getting ready for Rambo, Totally immersed in it! 100%. welcome to the jungle’.
Just look at the guy:
Wearing a shirt with John Rambo’s mugshot emblazoned on it, Sly can be seen getting pumped during a hardcore workout at his private gym – while listening to, naturally, Guns N’ Roses’ Welcome to the Jungle – pretty appropriate given the circumstances.
Proving to be his own hype man, to kick off the teaser campaign, Sly also shared an image of himself in one of the older Rambo films, saying: ‘Starting soon and getting very excited … The world may be changing but not him. NOTHING IS OVER!’
And looking at that iconic image of of our action hero, how can you not be excited to see John Rambo onscreen once more. He may be old enough to use public transport for free, but he’s never too old to be one of the greatest action heroes ever.
