First Official Teaser Trailer For Toy Story 4 Has Just Dropped
It feels like lightyears ago since we last caught up with Woody and the gang, who were about to venture on their new life in Bonnie’s room.
But now the teaser trailer has finally dropped, and I honestly haven’t been this excited for an animated film since, well, the build up to Toy Story 3…
The teaser opens with the instantly recognisable Pixar blue sky and clouds, which had long ago been the wallpaper in Andy’s room; marking the parameters of the toys’ world.
Meanwhile, Joni Mitchell’s melancholy song Both Sides Now plays softly. Now, for Love Actually fans, this tune is inextricable from the image of stoic Emma Thompson allowing herself a few secret tears at her husband’s infidelity. No doubt this long awaited sequel will pack even more of an emotional punch…
The characters can be seen smiling happily while holding hands in a circle, with plenty of our favourites present and correct. There’s Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Mr and Mrs Potato Head, Rex, Hamm, Slinky Dog and Alien.
However, there is one character we haven’t yet been introduced to, and he looks decidedly less enthused about being part of the playful gang…
This new character appears to be an anthropomorphised, agitated spork with mismatched googly eyes and pipe cleaner limbs and monobrow. An imaginative craft project from the hands of Bonnie perhaps?
In a bizzaro hark back to Buzz’s identity struggle in the original Toy Story movie, the frightened fork can be heard insisting, ‘I don’t belong here!’ before letting go of the other group members.
Chaos ensues, with the toys tumbling around and bumping into each other. Mr Potato Head’s body parts fall away, and the eternally anxious Rex goes into full panic mode.
Before running away, the fork in crisis can be heard screaming:
I’m not a toy!
This is a brand new character by the name of Forky, who – at first look – appears torn between the cutlery draw and the toy box.
As reported by Empire, the voice of Forky will be provided by Tony Hale, who plays the excruciatingly awkward Buster Bluth in Arrested Development.
According to the Toy Story 4 synopsis:
Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie.
But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called “Forky” to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy. Directed by Josh Cooley (“Riley’s First Date?”) and produced by Jonas Rivera (“Inside Out,” “Up”) and Mark Nielsen (associate producer “Inside Out”).
Nominated for three Oscars and two Golden Globes, Toy Story (1995) was the very first fully computer animated feature film and became the highest grossing movie of the year.
The subsequent sequels have proved worthy of the highly-regarded original, expanding upon the toy-populated universe with imaginative, hilarious and gripping plots.
Will Forky be a friend or foe? We still have quite a while to find out. Plenty of time to rewatch the previous three films…
Toy Story 4 will blast out of the toy box and into UK cinemas as of June 21 2019.
