Whatever happens today, whichever party happens, one thing will suffice: the first and only drive-thru Greggs.
Yes, everyone’s favourite bakery is opening it’s doors – or windows – to all those customers who commute via car to work and seldom have the time to pop in for their morning bacon sarnie or afternoon steak bake.
The leap in technology is based at Irlam Gateway Service Station in Salford, Greater Manchester.
The chain said the decision was made after being inundated with requests asking for a drive-thru branch.
The menu will include all the standards: sausage rolls, pasties, sandwiches as well as cakes, biscuits and buns.
The concept is being trialled following the launch of the Greggs delivery service in Manchester, before undergoing a potential roll-out across the country.
Chief executive for Greggs, Roger Whiteside said:
When it comes to food-on-the-go, our customers tell us that convenience is key. We’ve been working hard to take Greggs to where our customers need and want us to be including office parks, industrial estates, retail parks and travel hubs.
A drive thru offers the ultimate convenience and seemed the logical next step for us to take. This is a first for Greggs and we are excited to trial the concept in Irlam, Manchester.
The branch opened on Monday, June 2. The opening times are from 6am to 9pm Monday to Friday, from 7am to 7pm on Saturday and 8am to 6pm on Sunday.
