Gun Owners In Florida Are Encouraging Each Other To Shoot Hurricane Irma

When Americans don’t like something, they tend to shoot at it, as per the second amendment.

But things have gone to a whole new level of America after a Facebook page titled ‘Shoot At Hurricane Irma’ racked up over 70,000 responses.

The event was started by 22-year-old Florida resident Ryon Edwards and it’s blown up more than he could’ve imagined.

Ryon started the event a week ago – before the hurricane swelled and became the behemoth we’re witnessing today.

The event page shows 23,000 people are planning on ‘attending’ while another 50,000 are ‘interested’ in it.

Ryon told the BBC:

A combination of stress and boredom made me start the event. The response is a complete and total surprise to me.

I never envisioned this event becoming some kind of crazy idea larger than myself. It has become something a little out of my control.

The page has generated different types of responses – from people discussing the physics of shooting into a hurricane, to people offering some light-hearted support in a difficult time.

One Facebook user posted:

Hey, I know that we’re over here with the strong memes, but I wanna say that I appreciate all of you. Some of us aren’t going to be here this time next week, some of us will lose homes, businesses, friends and family.

But nothing in the world can break the spirit of Florida, not even this windy head ass bitch.

The post continued:

Stay strong, shooters. Remember lieutenant Dan and his courage in the face of the storm, and emulate him with all your heart.

Irma is set to be hitting Florida any time now and winds are expected to reach as fast as 160mph.

The Category 5 storm has just teared through Cuba, Puerto Rico and other islands in the area.

The resulting devastation of Hurricane Irma has been compared to that of an atomic bomb – the island of Barbuda is said to be ‘literally rubble’.

Millions of residents in Florida have evacuated to safety in the face of the upcoming storm.
