In case you weren’t aware, yesterday, May 19, there was a really big wedding which the entire world was watching, apparently.
Well maybe not the whole world, but certainly in the UK the entire country was glued to the Royal Wedding at St. George’s Chapel, in Windsor, as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle finally tied the knot.
Through all the pomp and pageantry you’d be forgiven for thinking Harry and Meghan only cared about each other on their big day, but those in attendance were certainly kept in mind too – mainly the female guests who were all given a gift at the wedding reception.
As a man who exclusively wears overly expensive Nike sneakers – I mean, at this point, I think I have more athletic footwear than I do actual clothes – I couldn’t imagine what it’s like to walk around in heels all day.
They might look fancy but according to a fellow colleague, it’s like walking with a nail in your heel.
So imagine having to do it yesterday, in the blazing British heat – which is a rarity in itself – while contending with the cobbled stones of Windsor Castle too. Not ideal is it?
Thankfully, Harry and Meghan were prepared for this eventuality – cosy, comfy slippers were distributed to their female guests so they wouldn’t have to put up with blisters forming on their feet throughout the day, reports the Mirror.
The quaint gift was revealed by Troian Bellisario, who attended the wedding with actor Patrick J. Adams. Adams was Meghan Markle’s co-star in Suits, where she played his on-screen lover and eventual husband.
Despite the strict phone ban, Bellisario gave her followers a tiny glimpse to the activities at the wedding reception.
Posting a series of videos via Instagram, Bellisario revealed Harry and Meghan had arranged for every female guest to be given slippers, just in case the six-inch heels became too much to bear.
She told her followers:
How amazing is this, as these shoes have come off, they have slippers for us. Slippers!
I’m so ready. I’m grabbing these
She wasn’t the only guest to break the rules yesterday – Meghan Markle’s unofficial wedding planner, Jessica Mulroney, cheekily went against the strict royal protocol by Instagramming a picture from inside the reception too.
Mulroney, whose seven-year-old twins were page boys for the wedding, posted a picture of them lifting up Meghan’s five-metre veil as she prepared to enter St George’s Chapel.
Tennis icon Serna Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian were also caught red-handed after sharing several snaps of them with their daughter, Alexis Olympia.
Yet the biggest rule breaker of them all was David Beckham, who was caught on camera in the act.
But just what was this cardinal sin Goldenballs broke?
He was spotted chewing in church. Chewing gum. Perhaps he was just channelling his inner Fergie?
The reaction on Twitter was pretty big:

Just popped in from gardening and caught a bit of the congregation. Wondering what flavour gum David Beckham is chewing. Commentators no help at all.#RoyalWedding

Beckham was looking fresh but with chewing gum in his mouth, he looked ready to be back in the dugout on a cold Wednesday night in Stoke.
The ceremony was being officiated by the Dean of Windsor, David Conner and the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, who performed the newlywed’s vows.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Meghan was walked down the aisle by Prince Charles after her father, Thomas Markle, was forced to pull out due to last minute heart surgery.
On the morning of the wedding, Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, accompanied her daughter to Windsor Castle with select members of the wedding party.
Meghan released a statement following her father’s decision to pull out of the wedding in which she professes she’s ‘always cared’ for him and hopes he can be given the time and space he needs to focus on his health.
Thomas was watching however and told TMZ:
My baby looks beautiful and she looks very happy. I wish I were there and I wish them all my love and all happiness.
He added, watching the ceremony in America was both ’emotional and joyful’.
Harry’s reaction to his bride walking down the aisle was a breathtaking moment. When she came to his side, the prince said to her: ‘You look amazing’.
