69 years ago today, the world was changed and changed utterly. A day which not only revolutionised and defined the world of acting and politics, but simply defined the meaning of life. And on this fateful day we must remember the man who brought about all of this visionary change – Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Marx, Freud, Nietzsche, Celine, Hemingway, O’Brien, Sartre, Joyce – wherever they all may be, are looking down on Earth today wishing that they could’ve changed the world and pumped iron the way our Arny did.
But he is a one off. One of a kind. A rare species – ‘too weird to live, too crazy to die’, as Hunter S Thompson once recalled when asked about Schwarzenegger.
So to celebrate our saviour’s big six nine, we’ve decided to make a collection of seven of the messiah’s best lines that are ultimately just fucking bizarre, according to CS Monitor.
Let’s start off with a classic – The Terminator (1984)
‘Nice night for a walk’.
Conan The Barbarian (1982)
‘What is best in life Conan?’.
‘To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the women!’
Last Action Hero (1993)
‘Want to be a farmer?’
The Running Man (1987)
‘I live to see you eat that contract! But I hope you leave enough room for my fist, because I’m going to ram it into your stomach and break your goddamn spine!’
Total Recall (1990)
‘See you at the party Richter’.
‘I eat green berets for breakfast…and I am very hungry!’
‘The pavement was his enemy’.
And that, right there, is just a minuscule peak into the world of Arnold Schwarzenegger – the world’s greatest living actor.
Happy birthday big guy.
