Here’s What The ‘Leave Britney Alone’ Guy Looks Like 10 Years On

@ChrisCrocker / Twitter

It has been a decade since Chris Crocker broke the internet with his emotionally-charged ‘Leave Britney Alone’ viral video.

If you don’t know what the ‘Leave Britney Alone’ video is, I honestly don’t know where you were or where you’ve been, because it was everywhere.

In his video, a 19-year-old Chris pleaded with haters to, well, leave Britney Spears alone, following what was daubed a ‘disastrous’ performance of her track ‘Gimme More’ at the 2007 VMAs.

Here’s a recap of Chris’ original video:

And, as you can see, Chris actually had a point. A very good point. But that didn’t stop a lot of people mocking him and making him the subject of cruel jokes and abuse online.

To mark the 10 years since he posted the video, Chris recorded a clip to tell fans what he’d learned in that time and revealed he was going through a lot in his personal life when he recorded the ‘Leave Britney Alone’ video.

After reposting his ‘Leave Britney Alone’ video he posted a statement underneath explaining how he’d defended his favourite pop star on that day. He bravely explained how his mother had been battling addiction and the ‘struggles’ in his home life and family life made him ‘defensive over any woman going through a hard time’.

He also explained how the internet and Youtube was a ‘less LGBT friendly place’ 10 years ago, and he said he was ‘mocked for his femininity’.

Even if I got a public beating for standing up for what’s right. I’m happy I did. And I’ll always love Britney Spears.
