Holly Madison claims she was 'afraid to leave' the Playboy Mansion because Hugh Hefner 'controlled every aspect' of her life.

The model, 42, spoke out about her time in Hefner’s former residence, as she called the Playboy magazine publisher 'manipulative' as she appeared in the new documentary Secrets of Playboy

The series, which aired in the US on Monday, January 24, details the life of editor-in-chief Hugh Hefner, who died in 2017 aged 91.

The second episode of the 10-part docuseries was devoted to Madison, where she discussed the 'dangerous' reality of working with the brand.

She said, 'I feel like on [The] Girls Next Door,' another reality series in which she starred, 'Hef was portrayed as a kindly grandpa, but that’s not how he is.'

'It would make me so angry how manipulative he was. Hef controlled every aspect of our life,' said Madison.

Madison, who was in a relationship with the magazine tycoon for seven years, said living with Hefner felt 'cult-like', and her and her female counterparts felt they were 'gaslit'.

The documentary comes as Hefner’s son and businessman Cooper Hefner recently came to his late father’s defence, stating that he was 'sincere', Metro reports.

The chief creative officer and chief of global partnerships at Playboy Enterprises tweeted: 'Some may not approve of the life my dad chose, but my father was not a liar.'

'However unconventional, he was sincere in his approach and lived honestly. He was generous in nature and cared deeply for people. These salacious stories are a case study of regret becoming revenge,' he added.

The documentary is expected to detail Hefner’s 'crazy' weekly parties with sex workers, according another of the entrepreneur's former girlfriends, Sondra Theodore.

TMZ previously reported that Hefner used to sit at the table while his 'Playboy bunnies' would spend time with a slew of TV and movie stars.

The publication also stated that the women would undergo 'medical checks' prior to any sexual encounters taking place.

There is no word yet on when Secrets of Playboy will air in the UK.
