A man who stayed in one of the 'coffin homes' of Hong Kong found it so small that he couldn't even fit on the bed.
Around 200,000 people in Hong Kong live in extremely cramped dwellings known as 'coffin homes', small cubicles with a cramped bed and sometimes nothing more than that.
They're usually inhabited by people who are trapped in poverty, such as retirees with no money or the working poor who can't afford to keep up with expensive property costs.

Some of these places have no windows, so it's impossible to tell what time of day it is, and people can spend years living in such cramped conditions unable to afford a way out.
More attention has been drawn to them after TikTokers made their way into the 'coffin homes', and one recent visitor was astonished to discover that he couldn't even fit in the bed.
TikToker @wilsend ended up staying in one of them and filmed their experience, showing that inside the tiny living space was a small bed, a shelf, a sink and a toilet.

However, he couldn't fit in the bed properly and said the place 'felt like a prison', while he'd also 'never been in a room this small'.
On top of those problems there was 'constant noise coming from outside' which left him able to get only about 'one hour of sleep'.
When he woke up he said he'd caught a fever and ended up in a terrible state, while his view out of the window was going to do nothing for his health and wellbeing as it was just a maze of concrete and pipework from other coffin homes.
While he only spent a short time in the coffin home, the shocking conditions are the sad reality for thousands of people who have been left behind by one of the most expensive housing markets in the world.
People getting a look at the dwellings have been appalled by what they've seen, with one person despairing at 'how rough it must've been during the quarantine period' for people living there.

Someone else said 'my first thought was if it set fire, and my second was claustrophobia', and a third chipped in to say they 'didn't know these things were real'.
Sadly, they're very much real and while one person said 'a room is better than none' the overall state of the place was 'really sad'.
