Huge Shark Spotted Near Surfers In Terrifying Footage

Footage has emerged of a massive shark prowling near surfers in the same South African spot where a man was mauled to death by a great white.

Back in 2012, bodybuilder David Lilienfield died after being dragged under the water by a 13ft great white shark. Onlookers on the beach watched in horror as the 20-year-old was attacked by the animal, and while doctors descended upon the area to help him, he passed away from his injuries.

Nearly 10 years later, another shark was filmed in the bay near some oblivious surfers and everyday swimmers enjoying the nice weather and clear water. Little did they know, they were bobbing in a 'shark tank'.

The video, shared to Twitter by @the_gregdavies, shows the shark in the shallow water unnervingly close to nearby people, whether they're swimming or sitting atop their surf boards. It's unclear which breed of shark it is, at the time of writing.

It's amassed nearly 20,000 views, with plenty of comments. 'Looks like a shark enjoying the surf and minding his/her own business,' one wrote. 'Shows that humans not natural prey. I've seen aerial shots of 10 sharks in false bay with surfers. No one bothered no one,' another wrote.

'It's good they didn't see the shark otherwise they would panic and seem as if an animal etc is distressed and then it attacks,' a third tweeted.

'This popular surf spot is called Caves and it’s part of the larger Kogel Bay beach and nature reserve. Sharkspotters are on duty here as this spot is known for it’s sharks. A bodyboarder died from injuries after a shark attack here a few years ago,' a fourth pointed out.

Yusaf George, an eyewitness to Lilienfield's death, earlier recounted to IOL, 'When I got there, they said there was a huge shark in the water. We were trying to shout to the boys to say there was a shark. But it was too late.'

'The next minute I saw the shark circle this guy. The brother was on his way out to catch a wave, and his brother called out to him. We just saw blood all over. The brother wanted to go in and help, but he couldn’t because the shark still had his brother. The second time the shark took him, it took the boy down with him.

'A few minutes later the bodyboard surfaced. And then the body was washed on to the rocks. It was terrible to witness. I felt so helpless.'
