An online fundraising project organised by Humans of New York has incredibly raised over $500,000 (around £335,000) for Syrian refugees in just one day.
The campaign had a very simple aim, to ‘give the gift of a fresh start’ this Christmas for families displaced from their homelands by the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.
Incredibly the initial target was only set at $100,000 (about £67,000).
After two days of donations, it’s been smashed by over 700%, with the current total above $700,000 (around £470,000).
The website will split the funds between 11 families who have been devastated by war.
As evidence of the desperate situations that have been left behind, Humans of New York have included some eye-opening, not to mention tragic stories on their Facebook page.
Here is just one example.
The funds raised so far will see each family receive over $60,000 (around $40,000) to start their new lives.
Should any of the funds be declined by the families, Humans of New York say it will be distributed to the resettlement organisation helping with their transition.
This is an astonishing effort from all involved for a truly worthy cause.
Way to go guys, you have all smashed the meaning of Christmas.
