Joe Biden's Approval Rating Has Dropped To A New Low

US President Joe Biden's public approval approval rating has dropped to an all-time low this week.

Since Russian President Vladimir Putin sent troops across the border into Ukraine on February 24, Biden has implemented a series of 'severe sanctions' against the Kremlin. However, the sanctions have come at a cost for American citizens, such as a ban of Russian oil imports leading to hiked petrol prices.

Biden has subsequently faced growing backlash, with half of Americans stating that they don't think Putin would have invaded Ukraine had former president Donald Trump still been in office.

This week, a national poll revealed that Biden's approval rating has dropped to its lowest to date.

The national poll was conducted by Reuters/ Ipsos on 21 and 22 March, and surveyed a total of 1,005 people, including 432 Democrats and 366 Republicans.

The poll revealed that 54 percent of US citizens disapprove of Biden's current performance in office, with the main concerns cited were the economy and foreign conflict.

The poll marks a 3 percent decline in Biden's approval rating from the week before.

However, 77 percent of Democrats gave a positive review of Biden's performance, despite his reactions to Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine and the high inflation on petrol prices in the US.

Only 27 percent of independents and 10 percent of Republicans gave Biden praise.

Biden was supported by 41 percent of people polled in another survey conducted by Yahoo News/ YouGov last week.

However, 53 percent of those polled disapproved of the president's conduct while in office.

Ahead of the 2024 elections, almost half of those polled by The Wall Street Journal last week voted that they don't think that Biden will try to run for office again.

Biden's approval rating has been taking a hit ever since the US's exit from Afghanistan.

In August 2021, after the Taliban's seized control of Kabul, a Reuters/ Ipsos national poll revealed that only 46 percent of American adults approved of Biden's performance in office.

Both Democrats and Republicans were quick to criticise him for his decision to remove all US troops from the country.

The fall in Biden's rating mirrors that of Trump's when he was in his second year as president.

Trump's approval rating fell from 40 percent to 33 percent from mid-March in his second year to December 2017.

Despite their similar performance, Trump has been very vocal in his condemnation of Biden's performance amid Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine, even claiming that Putin wouldn't have invaded the country had he still been in office.

If Biden does decide to run for president again in 2024 then he may come head-to-head with Trump once again, as the former president has announced that he will return 'better and stronger than ever before' to the White House.
