John C. Reilly Says He’s Down For A Step Brothers Sequel

Great news for anyone who treats late-noughties comedy Step Brothers as gospel, John C. Reilly wants to make a sequel.

Since its initial release ten years ago, Adam McKay’s seminal film has achieved a cult-status most comedies would kill for in thrice the time.

It follows the story of  two aimless middle-aged losers still living at home, who are forced against their will to become roommates when their parents marry.

A smash from the get-go, the film went on to gross $128.1 million at the box office.

Yet now, one of the stars, John C. Reilly has revealed he’d ‘love’ to do a sequel.

He told Good Morning America: ‘I mean, it requires the cooperation of a few other people, but I would love to do another one of those.’

Director McKay previously said:

It is very possible in five years, because I don’t think the Step Brothers idea gets worse the older these guys get.

We could all look at each other and go, ‘all right, let’s go do it.’ A while ago I said, ‘No way we’re doing it.’

But I thought about it. I was like, ‘Why am I saying that? We definitely could end up doing that.’ So who knows?

As for that Catalina Wine Mixer, he added:

It’s the craziest thing. I had John C. Reilly send me a story a couple years ago that they’re actually doing a Catalina Wine Mixer on Catalina every year.

And then I heard stories of Bro Culture doing the parties. I mean, that has to be one of the strangest things with the movies Will and I have done… certainly in the case of Anchorman, Talladega Nights and, Step Brothers.

We’re kind of making fun of certain cultures. Like a bro culture or you know, a white sexist 1970s guy. And then, when you see the people who you’re kind of making fun of embrace it, it’s both hilarious, and at the same time, dispiriting.

One thing’s for sure: absolutely everybody is going to go and see this. Who doesn’t love Step Brothers!
