Johnny Depp Claims Amber Heard Put Cigarette Out On His Face After Throwing Vodka Bottle Which Severed Finger

The film star has opened up about a range of topics while giving testimony at his defamation trial against his ex-wife

Johnny Depp claimed that Amber Heard put a cigarette out on his face after she threw a bottle of vodka at him that severed the top of his finger off.

The film star has opened up about a range of topics while giving testimony at his defamation trial against his ex-wife, which started in Virginia last week.

A significant moment arose today, 20 April, as Depp, 58, recalled a 2015 incident in Australia where the tip of his finger was sliced off, which he claims happened after Heard, 35, threw two vodka bottles at him.

Demonstrating how the second bottle caused the injury, he then recalled the moment he realised what had happened.

"I don’t know what a nervous breakdown feels like, but that’s probably the closest that I’ve ever been,” he said, later adding, “Nothing made sense and I knew in my mind and my heart this is not life… No one should have to go through this.”

Following his description, the court was also shown a picture of Depp in the emergency room, which reminded him of another injury he alleged was caused by Heard.

“I see a detail that I’d forgotten which is the… Ms Heard had taken my cigarette from the ash tray and stomped it out in my face,” he said.

Heard denies that she threw a vodka bottle at Depp, with her lawyers previously highlighting how Depp told emergency room staff that he had caused the injury accidentally.

Depp said he’d initially lied to medical staff, stating: “I lied because I didn't want to disclose that it had been Ms Heard that had thrown a vodka bottle at me and then took my finger off. I didn't want to get her in trouble...

“I tried to just keep things as copacetic and as easy as possible for everything. I did not want to put her name in that mix."

On the fourth day of the trial, Depp’s personal doctor David Kipper, who accompanied the actor to the emergency room, told the court that he has never seen Depp or Heard act abusively towards one another.

He also noted neither party had come forward to him with any allegations against the other.

Depp is seeking $50 million in damages in the lawsuit, which accuses Heard of falsely implying she was a victim of domestic abuse during her marriage to Depp in a 2018 opinion piece written for The Washington Post.

Though the article didn't name him, Depp’s lawyers argue that the accusations ruined his reputation and career.
