Watch: Jude Law and 80 GoPros Make Up The Largest 360 Degree Live Event Ever

160 hours of footage, 80 GoPros capturing 6k imagery, 25 hidden microphones, and 4TB of data – Lexus created a virtual reality video that allows you to see how we could all be watching live events in the future.

The video was created for ‘The Life RX’ campaign – a one night only immersive theatre event the Japanese car manufacturer put on in London last month.

Virtual Reality is set to explode this year. With the arrival of Oculus Rift and potentially Playstation VR, you will be seeing a lot more of this type of content. In fact, for the first time ever the popular music festival Coachella will have its very own virtual reality experience, and many other popular live events are set to follow suit.

However 360 degree virtual reality videos aren’t very easy to make, here’s what it took to produce this video:

80 individual cutting edge GoPro Hero 4 Black cameras used simultaneously
Fixed within 11x 3D printed 360° rigs, with each rig capturing 6K images
160 hours of footage, comprising 4TB of data
Largest 360° live event capture ever (that we’re aware of)
3 bespoke car rigs
32 crew members
25 hidden microphones

I don’t think we will be seeing any homemade virtual reality content any time soon.
