Moment K9 Turns On Handler During Spring Break Arrest

The dog was clearly spooked by the events unfolding

A viral video shows the moment a police dog turned on his handler after he slammed a man to the ground.

In the clip, which was shared by Twitter page @NoPauseTv earlier this week, the cop approaches a group of people partying for spring break.

Using his K-9 Unit dog, he chases her as his colleague cuffs another woman. The cop then sets his sights on a man in a red cap, who holds his hands up as he’s followed around by the office and his dog.

The officer tackles him to the floor whilst still holding the K-9’s collar. Onlookers can be heard screaming, “What are you doing? He didn’t do anything?”

But things take a turn when the dog starts attacking his handler, clearly spooked by the events unfolding in front of it. Panic turns to shock as one of those behind the camera says, “He’s biting him, he’s biting his a**!”

The female officer intervenes to help her co-worker and the man who’d been tackled on the floor.

The video has received more than 53k likes at the time of writing.

Hundreds of people have taken to the comments section, with one writing: “How have we gotten to a point that police think they can just assault random people?”

Another wrote: “I don’t think the dog attacking should be a joke. It’s direct proof that a canine that doesn’t see color, racial history, and uniform, in that moment saw an aggressor and a victim, and chose to protect the victim.”

The clip arrives after the City of Miami declared a state of emergency amid recent violence and hospitalisations during the ongoing 2022 spring break.

This move comes after five people were hospitalised following two separate shootings that took place during the spring break weekend last week in Miami Beach, NBC Miami reports.

Mayor Dan Gelber said of the violence: "Our city is past its endpoint. We can't endure this anymore. We just simply cannot have people come to our city and have to worry about being shot. That's not a way a city can operate."

On Sunday morning, 20 March, three people were hospitalised after a shooting just after midnight along Ocean Drive near 8th Street. Miami Beach Police said officers then arrived in the 700 block of Ocean Drive after reports of gunfire in the area around 1am on 21 March.

One-hundred guns have also been seized over the past four weeks, including 37 firearms over the past three days, Police Chief Rick Clements confirmed.
