Kardashian Courtroom Artist Defends Her Drawings After People Called Them 'Brutal'

Courtroom artist Mona Shafer Edwards has responded to the backlash over her drawings of the Kardashians. 

The Kardashians are currently embroiled in a $108 million lawsuit. They are being sued by Rob Kardashian's ex and mother of his child, Blac Chyna, legal name Angela White.

White has claimed the Kardashian family squashed her career in reality TV by defaming her and illegally interfering in contracts and business dealings.

However, it is the courtroom's sketch artist who has been stealing the limelight since the trial first began on Monday, 18 April, after she came under fire for her portrayals of the Kardashian clan.

Edwards has since spoken out.

Edwards claimed she 'didn't have much of a view' of the Kardashians because she was sat at the 'back of the courtroom'.

She told Mail Online: "I do the best work I can."

The sketch artist also argued that many people simply 'don't know what courtroom art is about' and have a 'skewed vision' of what such drawings are meant to be like.

Edwards reflected she had a 'much better view on the second day'. She also clarified she is required to draw in pen opposed to pencil.

However, the reaction to her drawings hasn't improved.

Edwards has sketched many 'very high-profile' figures during her career, however it's her interpretations of the Kardashians which have had the biggest response.

While she doesn't 'usually look at the comments,' and hasn't when drawing celebrities such as Michael Jackson, OJ Simpson or Lindsay Lohan, Edwards couldn't help but peak at the response to her Kardashians sketches.

Edwards faced various criticisms of her drawings, with many reflecting the 'ugly depictions of Kim, Khloe and Kylie' were not only 'hysterical' but pointed to the sketch artist 'clearly' not being 'a Kardashian fan'.

"Btw someone fire the person that made the sketch inside court coz why they taking sides," another said.

A third joked: "Kim is going to sue the hell out of this court room sketch artist."

While Edwards stressed she 'always tr[ies] to be very objective', she admitted to having a particular interest in the Kardashian-Jenner family.

Her children attended the same school as Kendall and Kylie.

However, she clarified she has never viewed Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

Despite her sketches appearing 'brutal' in some viewers' eyes, Edwards explained she doesn't just draw the 'silhouette' of figures but tries to find the 'personality' in them too.

She reflected she tries to 'get an emotional feeling' from those she sketches, looking closely at their 'body language' and the 'way the fabric flows'.

Edwards noted she first became a courtroom sketch artist in a bid to combat the 'wooden' and 'blocky' drawings she was seeing, and 'loves the courtroom and the drama' - which the Kardashian and Blac Chyna case is sure to have lots of.
