Keanu Reeves reportedly turned down a role in Captain Marvel because he wanted to star in John Wick 3 instead.
In my opinion, Reeves is one of the most fun, kick-ass and talented actors currently working in Hollywood, and so it surprises me he hasn’t popped up yet in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
However, according to a report this nearly happened with 2019’s Captain Marvel as the 54-year-old was originally set to take on the role of Yon-Rogg.
Allegedly, Reeves was forced to drop out due to scheduling conflicts with the latest John Wick film, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum
The role then went to British actor Jude Law.
Charles Murphy, from That Hashtag Show, shared the revelation on Twitter writing yesterday (February 3):
If not for John Wick 3, he’d have been Yon-Rogg. He was set to take the role and then, when he had to drop out, they moved SUPER QUICK on Jude Law.

If Reeves had taken on the role, it wouldn’t have been the first time he played a superhero on the big screen.
In 2005 the actor starred in the DC movie Constantine as the title character, who has the ability to be aware of, and communicate with half-angels and half-demons in their true form.
He has also previously expressed interest in playing Batman and Wolverine telling MovieFone in 2014:
I always wanted to play Wolverine. But I didn’t get that. And they have a great Wolverine now.
I always wanted to play The Dark Knight. But I didn’t get that one. They’ve had some great Batmans. So now I’m just enjoying them as an audience.
Well Keanu, your lucky day may be coming soon after Ben Affleck retired from playing Gotham City’s caped crusader.
Deadline broke the news last week (January 30), which Affleck confirmed on Twitter.
Sharing the entertainment website’s article, Affleck tweeted:
Excited for The Batman in Summer 2021 and to see Matt Reeves vision come to life.

Affleck donned the Dark Knight’s cape in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad and Justice League.
Unfortunately for Reeves though, Warner Bros. are reportedly looking to cast a younger actor to play Bruce Wayne in the upcoming The Batman so he may have missed his chance.
John Wick: Chapter Three – Parabellum will crash into cinemas on May 17 while Captain Marvel will land on March 8.
