Court Approves Elon Musk’s Daughter’s Request To Ditch Her Famous Last Name

The tech mogul's daughter has been officially granted her name and gender change, and will now be known as Vivian Jenna Wilson.

Elon Musk's daughter has been officially granted her name and gender change and will now be known as Vivian Jenna Wilson.

The Los Angeles County Superior Court gave the teen the green light to change her name from Xavier Alexander Musk to Vivian Jenna Wilson.

In the court documents, TMZ reports that Vivian also wants to be recognised as female.

But her name change isn't only about her transitioning. The documents hinted at a major rift with her dad.

According to the court filings, Vivian listed the reason for her name change as: "Gender Identity and the fact that I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form," she said, as per TMZ and The Blast.

A new birth certificate reflecting her new name and gender change will be issued shortly by the state registrar.

The judge's ruling said: "The petitioner's name is changed from Xavier Alexander Musk to Vivian Jenna Wilson. The gender of the petitioner is changed from male to female," as per TMZ.

The name Wilson comes from her mother, Canadian author Justine Wilson, who was married to Musk from 2000 to 2008.

The name change update comes days after Musk’s ex-wife Justine Wilson said she was ‘proud’ of their 18-year-old trans daughter who recently decided to change her name.

On Monday (June 20), Wilson seemingly responded to her daughter’s decision to distance herself from her billionaire dad with a tweet.

"'I had a weird childhood,' my 18 year old said to me. 'I can’t believe I’m as normal-seeming as I am.' I said, 'I’m very proud of you'," Wilson said on Twitter.

So far, neither the SpaceX founder or his child have publicly spoken about their relationship, rift, or Vivian's transition.

However, back in 2020, the Tesla founder tweeted about his support for the trans community.

"I absolutely support trans, but all these pronouns are an aesthetic nightmare," he wrote in December 2020.

This followed a tweet from July 2020, that simply read: "Pronouns suck."

Musk's daughter's decision to change her name comes shortly after the tech mogul was named as the most likely person to become the world's first trillionaire, according to Approve.

"The world’s richest person, Elon Musk, has an estimated net worth of $263 billion (AU $377 billion, £215 billion), as of January 19 2021, according to Forbes," Approve's report reads.

"Since 2017, Musk’s fortune has shown an annual average increase of 129 percent, which could potentially see him enter the trillion dollar club in just two short years, achieving a net worth of $1.38 trillion (AU $1.98 billion, £1.13 trillion) by 2024 at age 52."

UNILAD has approached Musk and Wilson for comment.
