Madonna's family break their silence after star is rushed to hospital

The singer developed a serious bacterial infection which lead to a several day stay in the ICU

The family of Madonna have broken their silence after the star was rushed to the ICU.

Madonna was found unconscious on Saturday (24 June) while in New York and rushed straight to hospital, where she was reportedly intubated overnight.

Her manager, Guy Oseary, subsequently revealed that she was suffering from a 'serious bacterial infection', and would be postponing her tour.

In a shocking moment, the musician's family have revealed that her condition was so serious that they were 'preparing for the worst'.

A family member told the Daily Mail: "For the past couple of days, no one really knew which direction this was going to turn, and her family was preparing for the worst.

"That is why it was kept a secret since Saturday. Everyone believed that we may lose her and that has been the reality of the situation."

The family member also added that the health scare had been a 'wake up call' for Madonna. They revealed that the singer had been pushing herself 'extremely hard' ahead of her upcoming tour.

They added: "This really woke her the f*** up. She has not been living as healthy a life as she should be for her age, and she has been wearing herself thin over the past couple of months.

"She thinks that she is still young when, in fact, she is not. She also believes that she is invincible."

The singer had to postpone her upcoming tour.

Madonna had reportedly been working six days a week to rehearse for the tour, with previous sources saying that she had been 'driving everyone up the wall with her perfectionism'.

Discussion of the tour has also reportedly been banned from the singer's bedside as she 'needs to rest' after the ordeal.

The relative said: "Everything, including this tour, is taking a backseat right now and no one is allowed to even mention anything work related around her because she will lose her s***. She will put her career and her fame before her health until the day she is dead."

A statement released by Madonna's management confirmed that she is expected to make a full recovery, but that touring commitments have had to be postponed.

It read: "On Saturday, June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several-day stay in the ICU.

"Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected."

Madonna had been due to stage her 40th anniversary tour, which had been due to start in Vancouver on 15 July.
