A man arrested on suspicion of raping and murdering a 4-year-old girl has been publicly lynched and hanged.
The man had been arrested in Reyes, northern Bolivia, however locals refused to wait for his trial instead taking justice – in the loosest sense – into their own hands, reports the Daily Mail.
Police officers were desperately outnumbered and failed to stop the public lynching.
Disturbing video footage shows the gang forcing their way into the man’s jail cell before beating him, dragging him through the streets and hanging him from a tree.
The 4-year-old victim was not a local but was visiting with her parents for her grandmother’s funeral.
Ivan Zambrana, the department director of the Special Force for Crime Fighting, told local media:
The dead bodies, both the girl’s and the lynching victim’s, have been moved to Palos Blancos [near Bolivian capital La Paz], we are investigating the case.
Nobody has yet been arrested for the lynching, however police are currently questioning locals and using social media videos of the incident in tackling the case.
Let’s hope some actual ‘justice’ is served in this case – you really can’t go round murdering people who have only been accused of crimes…
