Man Arrested After 73-Year-Old Mum Accidentally Gave His Weed Brownies To Pensioners

On January 5, 2022, Michael James Koranda was arrested for possession of a controlled substance after his mother served his weed brownies to her senior centre.
South Dakota-based Koranda’s arrest came after reports of ‘possible poisonings’ at the Tabor Community Center, where his mother, Irene Koranda, dished out the brownies.
He is now facing felony charges and, if convicted, could face a maximum five-year prison sentence and a $10,000 fine.

Reportedly, Koranda brought the THC butter used to make the brownies back from Colorado, where recreational marijuana is legal for those aged 21 and above.
He apparently fell asleep after making a batch of the brownies, and his 73-year-old mother then proceeded to take the snacks to her community centre.
An affidavit related to the case detailed how Koranda confirmed the series of events, stating: ‘An investigation into the incident led me to believe that the patients were all under the influence of THC from a batch of brownies that were brought to the Community Center.’

The affidavit continued, per NBC News:
Michael admitted to bringing 1 pound of THC butter to make the pan of brownies and then went to bed, and his mother unknowingly took the brownies to the card game where several people ate them. Michael said the remaining half pound of butter was still at his house.
The case is still ongoing, but since being arrested, Koranda has been released on an unsecured bond of $3,000, which is due later this month, while a representative for the county’s clerk’s office said he had not retained an attorney.
