Man Buys Tom Brady's Last Touchdown Ball For $500k Just One Day Before He Announces His 'Unretirement'

A collector bought NFL quarterback Tom Brady's 'final TD ball' at the worst moment.

Having said he was going to retire just weeks ago, Brady's touchdown ball from the playoff game between the Bucs and Rams on Saturday, March 12, sold for a whopping $518,628.

However, unluckily for the buyer, the 44-year-old sportsman decided to announce that he wasn't actually retiring only a day later.

Subsequently, the game and touchdown pass will no longer act as his last.

Brady decided to retire six weeks ago, however announced his decision to return on Sunday afternoon.

He said: 'These past two months I’ve realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands. That time will come. But it’s not now.

'I love my teammates, and I love my supportive family. They make it all possible. I’m coming back for my 23rd season in Tampa. Unfinished business LFG.'

Since Brady's announcement, fans of the NFL star have taken to Twitter to commiserate and point out the bad luck of the buyer.

One said: 'The guy who bought Tom Brady’s last TD ball for $518,000 is punching air right now.'

Another wrote: 'Some guy paid $518,000 yesterday for Tom Brady’s “last” touchdown ball. I’d have given anything to see his reaction to the unretirement tweet.'

Others have been left overwhelmed with joy and fairly shocked at the news of Brady's return.

'Dude has played 22 seasons, won 7 Super Bowls, has 5 Super Bowl MVPs, 3 NFL MVPs, made 15 Pro Bowls and said “Unfinished Business”. Man what?!' one exclaimed.

Brady originally decided to retire from the sport on February 1, explaining that he wanted to spend more time with his family, Sky News reports.

However, a week later he said 'never say never' about possibly returning to the game again.

Another Twitter account also revealed that another unlucky buyer had reportedly purchased 'Tom Brady's last touchdown ball on the blockchain'.

'I'm the proud owner of @TomBrady's last touchdown pass serial #258,' they stated.

The ball from Brady's first touchdown pass was reportedly sold by Lelands Auctions on March 6, 2021 for $428,841, with his 'final' touchdown ball subsequently selling for $210,213 more.
