A man has tragically died after he ‘caught fire’ during preparations at the Glastonbury Festival site.
A number of emergency crews, including two air ambulances, were called to the site in Pilton on Monday afternoon at around 5pm, reports the Huffington Post.
The man – who is reported to be in his 20s – was airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, however doctors were unable to save his life due to the severity of his burns.
A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Constabulary said:
The man’s family have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this time.
The details of how he suffered the burns are unknown and the death is being treated as unexplained, however it’s not believed to be suspicious.
The site opens today, although there have been reports of 11 hour traffic jams as thousands of people flood the site.
The festival proper kicks off on Friday, with Coldplay, Muse and Adele filling the headline slots over the course of the weekend.
