Horrific scenes unfolded in the early hours of this morning, (March 18), after a man who’d been ‘kicked out of a nightclub’ drove a car into the building, injuring several people in the process.
Following the events which took place in the early hours of this morning, (Sunday March 18), a man has since been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the incident at Blake’s Nightclub in Gravesend, Kent.
Witnesses have described how a silver 4×4 smashed into a marquee, which was set up in the smoking area at the venue, where the South London rapper Giggs was due to perform.
According to Kent Police, the driver of the vehicle is believed to have been asked to leave the premises earlier on Saturday night, March 17, after a fight broke out. They were able to confirm the incident was not terror related.
One club-goer said he was in the smoking area and saw the driver arguing with bouncers at the front of the club, report The Sun.
I saw all the security guards shouting. They were standing in front of the car to stop it moving but it reversed and really went for it.
One guard got the door open and was trying to pull him out or stop the car but it kept coming towards us. Another security guard tried to jump out of the way but he went onto the bonnet and hit the windscreen.
I knew he wasn’t going to stop so I just got my girlfriend and we ran out of there.
19-year-old Georgia, who was in the main building, said bouncers ordered everyone to the back of the club and made them wait there for 15 minutes:
We didn’t really see much. I heard the bouncers say there was someone outside who had run down some people.
People were trying to get out but the bouncers were telling us to get to the back of the club away from the doors.
The music had stopped. There was a real sense of panic. People were saying someone had been kicked out and because he’s been kicked out he drove into the side of the club.
There was a lot of ambulances and a lot of people were saying at least two people had been killed.
Some people were saying they had seen bodies covered up on the dance floor. But it could just be a rumour.
Rapper Giggs was due to perform at the club as part of a grime night, but following the events, his show was cancelled.
Love Island winner Cara de la Hoyde was among those caught up in the chaos after suggesting her brother was inside the nightclub.
Although now deleted, she took to Twitter to write:
Seriously whatever scum bag has done this your f*cked [sic] Iv just picked my brother up and a lot of good people have been affected & hurt. [sic]
This guy needs his head testing & to be locked away. So scary that people like this exist his family should be ashamed if you know him do 1 [sic].
BBC Radio 1Xtra DJ, Reece Parkinson posted footage of the aftermath on his Twitter page.
He said in the video:
My God I nearly died. I’m in this club and this car came through the f*cking club, look. A guy who didn’t get let in drove in the club. Drove in the club. Look.
The disturbing footage showed a silver Suzuki Vitara, with its numberplate hanging off as well as a smashed windscreen.
