Man Who Blocked Driveway With Car Returns To A Nasty Surprise
There are few things in life more aggravating than a bad parker; particularly when they’ve committed their atrocities right on your doorstep.
Pity then these unfortunate residents of Monton, Salford, who were greeted by the sight of a car completely blocking their driveway.
Without any apparent thought to the nuisance they were causing, the driver had caused a shockingly blatant obstruction; with the residents’ car blocked in on the driveway.
The frustrating incident happened on the morning of Wednesday, September 12 and has understandably left a lot of people seriously hacked off.
Luckily, this dire driver got their comeuppance. Greater Manchester Police officers had the vehicle towed away for causing an obstruction and sent the driver a penalty notice.
Warning others to stay clear of these irritating and disruptive behaviours, Greater Manchester Police tweeted:
A patrol was sent to a vehicle causing obstruction in @GMPMonton this morning. Vehicle was blocking in a vehicle on the drive.
Traffic Offence Report issued & vehicle towed away. PLEASE PARK RESPONSIBLY DON’T BLOCK OTHERS IN.
They later tweeted:
If it’s preventing you from getting off your driveway then its causing an obstruction which is a police matter.
People who have seen the pictures – which really are the most annoying thing you will see all day – have been left infuriated by the driver’s impudence. And of course gleeful at the prospect of their just desserts.
One person raged, ‘What kind of idiot does this?!’ while another suggested the driver ‘should also be charged with wasting police time!’
Another person fumed:
How utterly selfish of this driver. Would have loved to of seen the reaction when the car wasn’t there when he/she returned!!
So what can you do regarding a vehicle blocking your driveway, aside from screaming internally?
According to the Greater Manchester Police website:
If your vehicle is parked on your drive and a vehicle is stopping you from accessing the highway this is classed as an obstruction please speak to your community and make ownership enquiries before contacting Greater Manchester Police on 101.
If a vehicle is blocking access to your driveway and your vehicle is on the highway this is an inconvenience and not classed as an obstruction in road traffic law.
Solicitor at DAS Law, Charlotte Dixon, told the Mirror:
The first step with any anti-social parking problem is to contact your local authority or the police; however there is little the law can do to support home owners – even if a car blocks your driveway.
The Highway Code can only help if the parked car is causing an obstruction to the road but not in relation to private land. But that doesn’t leave you entirely powerless.
One option that’s available is to pursue a legal claim for nuisance on the grounds that the driver is interfering with your use and enjoyment of your property – but to do so you’d need to know the identity of the offending vehicle’s driver.
Hopefully the punishment dealt out to this pesky parker will encourage others to be more considerate while out on the road.
Wouldn’t you have just loved to see the parker’s face after she or he returned to the scene of their chronic rudeness? I know I would…
