Melania Trump is set to spend a week in hospital after having kidney surgery, according to reports.
The White House revealed the US First Lady, 48, underwent a procedure called an embolisation procedure to treat a benign condition.
According to CNN, it is the most serious medical procedure undergone by a serving First Lady since Nancy Regan had a mastectomy back in 1987.
The White House’s Stephanie Grisham said in a statement:
This morning, first lady Melania Trump underwent an embolization procedure to treat a benign kidney condition.
The procedure was successful and there were no complications. Mrs Trump is at Walter Reed National Military Center and will likely remain there for the duration of the week.
The First Lady looks forward to a full recovery so she can continue her work on behalf of children everywhere.
President Donald Trump remained in the White House during Melania’s surgery.
Earlier this month, Melania announced her new platform ‘Be Best’ to focus on opioid addiction and families, general physical and emotional well-being of kids, as well as the safety of kids using social media.
