Konami recently released an extended look at Metal Gear Survive – the new multiplayer spinoff, and first in the franchise without series creator Hideo Kojima at the helm.
As everyone and their gran could have predicted, the majority of fans really aren’t happy with what they’re seeing. At the time of writing, the gameplay trailer currently has over 20,000 dislikes to a little under 1,300 likes – ouch.
Many commenters reasoned that Survive might have been an interesting game if it didn’t have the Metal Gear name bolted on. Of course, such a respected franchise comes with certain expectations, but we should try and remember that it’s just a spinoff.
Of course, other commenters embraced the power of the internet and used it for what we all know it was built for – lots of complaining:
For his part, Hideo Kojima recently took to the Tokyo Game Show, where he was quick to distance himself from Metal Gear Survive.
He especially wasn’t keen on the idea of zombies in Metal Gear, saying:
The Metal Gear games are about political fiction and espionage. Where do zombies fit in with that?
Konami announced Metal Gear Survive to an already lukewarm reception during Gamescom in August, coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2017. Obviously the more people see, the less they like.
For what it’s worth, Konami don’t intend to charge a full £50 for this one, and instead expect to be able to sell the spinoff for £20.
