Multiple People Shot And Wounded In Separate Brooklyn Subway Incidents

Multiple people have been shot at a Brooklyn subway station while several undetonated devices were also believed to have been found at the location.

Reports suggest that at least five people were said to have been shot by a man who was wearing a gas mask with an orange construction vest who fled the scene. Police later confirmed there were no active explosive devices.

The man is reportedly said to be around 5ft5" and roughly 180 pounds, according to preliminary reports.

The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) said 13 people have been transported to hospitals in the local area.

FDNY also say that they were called to the 36th Street subway station in Brooklyn's Sunset Park neighbourhood for a smoke condition at about 8.30am, reports CNN.

The NYPD have tweeted: "ADVISORY: Due to an investigation, avoid the area of 36th Street and 4th Avenue area in Brooklyn.

"Expect emergency vehicles and delays in the surrounding area."

The police also confirmed that no active explosives have been found.

They added: "In regard to the multiple people shot at the 36th Street subway station in Brooklyn, there are NO active explosive devices at this time. Any witnesses are asked to call @NYPDTips

at #800577TIPS.

"Please stay clear of the area. More provided information when available."

One eyewitness, named Clair, told the New York Post she 'lost count' of how many rounds of bullets were fired.

She said: “There was like, lots of them. I don’t even know how many."

Clair claimed the man who was wearing the mask dropped 'some kind of cylinder that sparked at the top'.

She added: “I thought he was an MTA worker at first because I was like, I didn’t like pay too much attention.

"You know? You’ve got the orange on."

Another witness tweeted: "I was heading into 36th Street Station in Brooklyn when a young guy who was bleeding from the legs said people were injured and bleeding. I'm safe, almost back home."

A spokesperson for the New York police department (NYPD) told The Guardian multiple people were shot, though they could not say exactly how many or the condition they were in.
