Nicki Minaj’s brother faces 25 years to life in prison after being found guilty of child rape.
Jelanie Maraj’s verdict was delivered in Long Island on Thursday after a three-week-long trial.
The defence claimed the dark allegations were completely fabricated in an attempt to extort the accused’s famous sister of $25 million.
Maraj’s defence lawyer, David Scwartz, told the courtroom:
There are 25 million reasons why these people [have lied].
It’s about money and it’s about revenge against the family, the Maraj family.
[The mother] needed the marriage first before breaking out her master plan of taking all of Nicki Minaj’s money.
It only took four months to unleash hell on this family.
The closing arguments by both defence and prosecutors were delivered on Monday.
The 38-year-old was found guilty of predatory sexual assault against a child and endangering the welfare of a child.
Prosecutors hailed the bravery of the two children who testified.
Maraj’s stepdaughter and her younger both bravely delivered a damning testimony against their stepfather.
The 14-year-old female victim relived painful details of horrific sexual abuse she’d been subjected to since she was just 11 years old.
The assaults included oral, vaginal and anal rape.
The victim’s brother told the court he walked in on Maraj raping his sister when he was just eight.
Maraj told the children if they spoke about the abuse to anyone else, their mother would be taken away from them for good.
Nassau District Attorney Emma Slane told jurors:
You have the power to speak. Tell those children you heard them.
In late October the defence claimed the accused’s sister, Nicki Minaj, would testify in her brother’s defence, but the rapper’s representatives denied she ever had any intentions of doing so.
Maraj will be sentenced on December 14.
