It’s not clear how long the athlete had been in the water before emergency services arrived.
Team USA runner Leo Manzano, who won silver in the 1500m at the 2012 London Olympics and Canadian track and field Olympian Nate Brannen were among those to pay tribute to David on Twitter.

David had set the Peruvian national record in the mile run on June 1, 2017 when he won the event at the Adrian Martinez Classic, in Massachusetts, in 3 minutes, 53.21 seconds.
So tragic.
