One of the men who brutally killed Fusilier Lee Rigby is suing the prison service, claiming he had his two front teeth knocked out.
Michael Adebolajo – who was convicted last year along with Michael Adebowale of murdering the 22-year-old soldier in May 2013 – is now demanding compensation, claiming five officers assaulted him at the high security Belmarsh prison.
It’s believed the officers were suspended from work after the incident, but were later told they had no case to answer for, with the Prison Officers’ Association claiming that only approved restraint techniques had been used.
A Ministry of Justice spokesman said that it will defend the compensation claim, which The Sun reported could be anything up to £20,000.
A police investigation into this incident took place and no charges were brought against members of staff. The public will be rightly outraged at the thought of this man receiving compensation from the taxpayer and we robustly defend claims made against the Prison Service.
Adebowale and Adebolajo – both British-born Muslim converts – horrified the British public after they ran down the father of one in a car before hacking him to death with a meat cleaver and knives.
The pair encouraged witnesses to film the brutal killing and Adebolajo gave a rambling speech, whilst his hands were covered in blood saying this act of violence was revenge for Britain’s involvement in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Adebolajo was condemned to die in prison, with a whole-life jail term for the shocking murder, whilst Adebowale was sentenced to life with a minimum of 45 years.
At their sentencing the pair lashed out violently in the dock, screaming and wrestling with security guards.
We can only hope common sense prevails in dealing with this ridiculous claim.
