The identity of the next James Bond may well have just been revealed following a simple slip of the tongue.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Oscar winning director John Ridley has at least proven he isn’t MI6 material after seemingly failing to guard what would surely be considered a huge trade secret.
Speaking to BBC Radio One, the 51-year-old revealed who he is expecting to see land the coveted role.
Ridley is of the belief that Idris Elba has the role sealed – that or he’s a master troll…
The director who has worked with Elba most recently on Guerrilla said:
Idris is pretty much becoming a national treasure for every country. We couldn’t have done it without him.
It was a pleasure, he’s a gentleman. I can’t wait to see him as James Bond quite frankly.
Elba himself is telling a different story though.
The Mail report Elba refuted the comments after being collared on the red carpet.
Elba reacted saying:
Oh my god, I have no idea why he said that. That’s another six months of the rumour, oh well.
Add to that months of protestation from the 44-year-old brit, and it remains pretty unclear as to whether Ridley’s comments can be taken as fact.
Elba has previously stated his belief he is ‘too old’ for the iconic role, but as proven by recent documentary Fighter age is just a number and Elba is more than physically capable of filling those tech-carrying shoes.
I guess the rumour mill is going to keep working on this one for a while!
