People Blown Away By 'Terrifying' Darth Vader Billboard

People are flooding to social media in awe of the new Darth Vader billboard which has been unveiled in Times Square.

People are flooding to social media in awe of the new Darth Vader billboard which has been unveiled in Times Square.

I may have not seen Star Wars, but I can still appreciate the skill, drama and mastery that went into creating this epic digital corner 3D billboard on display in the heart of New York.

Fans of the franchise have since stormed social media in support of the big reveal, marvelling at how 'awesome' but also 'slightly scary' the creation is.

Star Wars supporters have also physically flooded to Times Square since news of the billboard - which is promoting Obi-Wan Kenobi - was shared via social media.

One wrote: "THE DARTH VADER TIMES SQUARE BILLBOARD IS INSANE IN PERSON OMG STAR WARS YOU OUTDID YOURSELVES HERE."

Another user told followers to put their 'sound on' and checkout the 'brilliant (and slightly scary?)' digital billboard.

However, they ultimately resolved the advertisement was 'amazing work'.

A fan even viewed the billboard as 'rivalling some of the effects you guys used on Rise of the Resistance'.

They said: "That's bad ass. [...] I thought there was even a little smoke machine built into the bottom edge of the frame it looks so realistic. Great job!"

"Oh god the drag of that lightsaber is just. Epic," another said.

A final joked: "The Darth Vader billboard in Times Square do be kinda cute. Pulling your saber out in such a crowded space is rude tho."

The billboard was created as a collaboration between OLED Space and ILM and is being used to promote Disney+ original, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The synopsis of the mini-series reads: "Obi-Wan Kenobi begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader."

The billboard follows soon after another of a similar style which was used to promote The Book of Boba Fett.

Instead of showing Darth Vader pacing menacingly round the corner of the screen, it showed Boba Fett striding eerily life-likely around the curb.

The billboard was positioned in exactly the same place as the latest of Darth Vader in Times Square.

Obi-Wan Kenobi was directed by Deborah Chow and features an all-star cast, such as Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey actor Ewan McGregor, Little Italy actor Hayden Christensen and Indira Varma, who featured in Official Secrets.

The television mini-series comprises of six episodes, the first of which was first released on 27 May, 2022.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is currently available to watch exclusively on Disney+.
