French President Emmanuel Macron has been mocked for seemingly aping clothes worn by Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Ever since Vladimir Putin launched his 'special military operation', now on its 20th day amid thousands of civilian casualties and soldiers being killed, President Zelenskyy has attracted continual praise for his resilience and defiance in the face of wartime adversity.

The former actor-comedian, who even played the role of Ukraine's President before actually leading the country, has ditched the formalities of a suit and tie for casual attire in these trying times, often sporting an olive green military t-shirt for his presidential addresses.

Speaking to the House of Commons and delegates across the world, Zelenskyy hasn't bowed to the expected attire, instead focusing on what actually matters: the security of Ukraine. For his 'bravery and leadership', he's even set to receive an honorary knighthood from the UK.

And in new photos shared on social media, it seems as if Macron is taking after Zelenskyy with his choice of clothing.

'Macron decided to turn up to work in a pair of jeans and a French paratroopers hoodie to be more like Zelenskyy,' journalist Sam Street tweeted.

The photos were taken in the Golden Room of the Élysée Palace in Paris on Sunday, released today by Soazig De La Moissonnière, the official photographer at the palace.

Street's observations have been echoed by others on Twitter. 'Macron copying Zelenskyy. Beard, hoodie sweatshirt and wink,' one user wrote.

'Zelenskyy started the new era where heads of state will all dress like Silicon Valley tech startup CEOs from now on,' another joked. 'Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness. But I still don't want to see @BorisJohnson in a tight t-shirt,' another wrote.

'Very funny seeing him affect the whole 'jeans at work' thing against a backdrop of such extreme opulence,' a third wrote.

'Macron is dressed like he’s about to deliver the unfortunate news that due to significant swings in the digital advertising market, we’ll be saying goodbye to a number of colleagues in our news division today,' a fourth joked.

Others have been more supportive of Macron. 'World leaders can wear whatever the fk they want,' one wrote. 'Maybe we can all calm down over the fact that younger pollies are indeed turning up to work a bit more casual on a Sunday? He has been photographed unshaved and rocking hoodies way back in 2021 already btw,' another tweeted.
