Police Hunt For Woman Suspected Of Murdering Professional Cyclist Who Was Dating Her Boyfriend

Police in the US are on the hunt for a woman they suspect may have killed professional cyclist Anna Moriah Wilson

Police in the US are on the hunt for a woman they suspect may have killed professional cyclist Anna Moriah Wilson.

Cops in Austin, Texas, have issued a warrant for the arrest of Kaitlin Marie Armstrong, 34, who is now facing a murder charge after 25-year-old Wilson was found dead at on 11 May.

Wilson, who was discovered by her friend, had multiple gunshot wounds, and despite her friend and police performing CPR on her, she was pronounced dead a short time late.

The 25-year-old had travelled to Austin from her home in San Francisco for a race.

A day after Wilson's death, Armstrong was interviewed by police and questioned why a vehicle similar to the one she owns had been caught on surveillance footage outside the home Wilson was staying in shortly after the cyclist had returned home.

According to an arrest warrant: “Armstrong again made no effort to deny what was being said and still provided no explanation as to why her vehicle would be there.”

It had previously been reported that Armstrong may have carried out the murder after discovering her cyclist boyfriend Colin Strickland had been in a romantic relationship with Wilson while they were still together.

Strickland had told police that he had briefly dated Wilson during a break in his relationship with Armstrong in January this year.

Investigators said that a search of Wilson’s phone indicated that she thought she was ‘still in a romantic relationship with Strickland even though he was currently dating Armstrong’.

However, Wilson’s family deny that she was in a relationship with anyone at the time of her death.

Wilson’s family issued a statement to KXAN that read: “While we will not elaborate about the ongoing investigation, we do feel it's important to clarify that at the time of her death, those closest to her clearly understood, directly from Moriah, that she was not in a romantic relationship with anyone.”

The statement went on: 'We are absolutely devastated by the loss of our beautiful daughter and sister, Anna Moriah Wilson. There are no words that can express the pain and suffering we are experiencing due to this senseless, tragic loss.

A vehicle similar to Armstrong's was seen in the area on the night of the murder.

“Moriah was a talented, kind, and caring young woman. Her life was taken from her before she had the opportunity to achieve everything she dreamed of. Our family, and all those who loved her, will forever miss her.”

Shortly after the death, Strickland issued a statement in which he said that his relationship with Wilson was ‘platonic and professional’ and that he had not been romantically involved her at the time of her death.

He added: "There is no way to adequately express the regret and torture I feel about my proximity to this horrible crime.

"I am sorry, and I simply cannot make sense of this unfathomable situation."
