Arnold Schwarzenegger’s classic sci-fi/action film Predator celebrates its 30th anniversary this November and to mark the occasion cinemas across the UK will be holding special screenings.
First things first, I don’t care who you are, what your beliefs are – none of it – but what I will not accept is someone saying, ‘I haven’t seen Predator‘.
So if you happen to be in the minority; 1) no it doesn’t make you cool and nor does it mean you have better taste in movies, it just means you’re a soulless individual and 2), this is your opportunity to rectify this transgression against film and all of pop culture.

Hell, even if you’ve seen it a million times on TV, I’m almost certain you haven’t seen it on the big screen, so next month is the perfect opportunity to do so.
If you need a refresh of the plot; Predator follows a team of elite commandos on a mission (led by Arnie of course), in a South American jungle which goes awry when they’re hunted by a deadly alien warrior.
It’s your quintessential 80’s action film, packed with gratuitous violence, cheesy quips and overflowing with so much testosterone and hyper-masculinity you’d be forgiven for thinking director John McTiernan and the main cast were compensating for something.
The film is also famous for giving birth to one of Arnie’s classic catchphrases – which for many ( myself included) believe is his best:
A few fun facts, according to IMDb, about Predator; the original concept of the film started off as a joke/dig on Sylvester Stallone’s iconic Rocky Balboa.
The production company joked the only challenger he had left to take on was E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.
Also ‘The Muscles From Brussels’ himself, Jean-Claude Van Damme, was originally pitched to play the Predator, however he was considered ‘too small’ for the role.
The final scene where Arnie covers himself in mud, as he finally takes on the Predator one-on-one, caused a lot of problems for his body temperature – the film crew actually used potter clay to cover his body and he was warned it would take his temperature down a few degrees, causing him to shiver non-stop.
In a failed attempt to keep warm he drank Jagertee, which is a schnapps mixture, however this apparently only got him drunk.

So do it. DO IT NOW! RUN!
