Prince Andrew and Prince Harry will reportedly not be receiving the Platinum Jubilee Medal next month, The Telegraph has claimed.

The medal – given to serving members of the Armed Forces, police, fire, emergency, prison services and those who hold honorary military titles – marks the Queen’s 70 years on the throne.

The news comes as Harry decided to retire from his official duties within the royal family in 2020. Meanwhile, Andrew recently returned his military affiliations and royal patronages to the Queen amid the ongoing civil case lodged by Virginia Giuffre against the duke.

It has also been speculated that the pair are set to lose their title of Counsellors of State, which typically includes the monarch’s spouse and the next four people in the line of succession over 21 years old.

Counsellors of State are authorised to carry out duties such as attending Privy Council meetings and signing documents.

The counsellors are relied upon to undertake the official duties of the Queen, should she not be able to complete them. However, Harry and Andrew may soon lose this title, according to a royal source.

The source said, as per The Daily Mail:

It is a genuine problem that the Palace is looking to address. Can you imagine the Duke of York having to sign official documents, for example, because the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge were both abroad, and the Queen became ill? It’s not an exaggeration to say it could put the monarchy in jeopardy.

While a palace spokesperson declined to comment on the matter, reportedly, the law would need to be changed in order to take the title from Andrew and Harry.

The source went on to add ‘there could be events later this year which make such a change necessary’ but didn’t elaborate further on the matter.
