Tom Hardy is raising money for the victims of the suicide bomb blast at Ariana Grande’s Manchester concert on Monday night.

In the wake of the attack at Manchester Arena which left 22 people dead and 102 injured, the Mad Max actor has pleaded for the public to raise funds as a ‘gesture of goodwill’ to help to repair some of the damage done.

So far more than £5,000 has been raised towards the £15,000 target. Tom also  had some poignant words to share on his JustGiving page.

He wrote:

What happened last night at the AG concert in Manchester was a tragedy; families and children attacked and murdered; in a place where they should be safe and enjoying a concert. it is an inconceivable atrocity. There is no bringing back those who have been lost, pointlessly, in such a cowardly and brutal fashion. I am truly saddened by what I have witnessed and there is no doubt that terrorism is an evil thing.

I hope between us we can raise some funds as a gesture of goodwill and love to help in some small way towards repairing some if any of the damage done in the wake of last nights events. There will be much to do and for many the beginning of a new life without those that they love and also a new life damaged irrevocably by the actions of a crime which has no reason, no heartfelt purpose but was simply a cruel cowardly and barbaric, meaningless act of violence. A road to recovery unimaginable.

Terrorism is abhorrent, the killing of innocent families and children unacceptable. And it is with those, the innocent victims and the witnesses of this atrocity that my heartfelt concern and deepest sympathy lies. Please help however you can. Thank you.

More than £1,000,000 has been raised so far by the Manchester Evening News’ We Stand Together  fundraiser. The money raised will be administered by the British Red Cross, who are offering support to affected families.

The initial target was set at £100,000 but that had tripled by Tuesday lunch. The target has since been raised on a number of occasions as donations continue to flood in.

Ariana Grande has also reportedly offered to pay for the funerals of all the fans who were tragically killed in the Manchester terrorist attack at her concert.

While the gesture has yet to be confirmed, strong rumours are gathering pace that the offer has been made. Her representatives have been contacted but have yet to comment.

Fantastic show of support from everybody at what is such a terrible time. Our thoughts remain with all of those affected by the tragic events of Monday evening.
